Eikthyr Boss Guide — Valheim's First Forsaken
Eikthyr is the first of seven Forsaken bosses, found in the Meadows biome. A massive spectral stag with chain-lightning attacks, Eikthyr teaches you the fundamentals of Valheim boss combat — preparation, dodging, and stamina management. This guide covers everything: summoning, attack patterns, best weapons, and how to claim your first Forsaken Power.
1. How to Summon Eikthyr
Location
Eikthyr's Mystical Altar is in the Meadows biome, near the world spawn point. When you first start Valheim, a glowing red runestone near the spawn stones will mark Eikthyr's altar on your map. If you missed it, interact with any red runestone in the Meadows — one will always point to the nearest boss altar.
Summoning Requirements
| Item | Quantity | How to Get |
|---|---|---|
| Deer Trophy | 2 | Kill Deer in the Meadows (drops ~50% of the time) |
Place 2 Deer Trophies on the altar's hotbar slots and press the interact key. Eikthyr will spawn immediately.
2. Eikthyr Stats & Weaknesses
| Attribute | Value |
|---|---|
| Health | 500 HP |
| Damage Type | Lightning (chain attack), Pierce (antler strike), Slash (close range) |
| Weak To | Pierce damage (Spear, Bow) |
| Resistant To | Stagger (hard to stagger without multiple heavy hits) |
| Immune To | Spirit damage, Poison |
3. Attack Patterns
| Attack | Description | How to Counter |
|---|---|---|
| Chain Lightning | Rearing up on hind legs, Eikthyr slams down, sending a cone of lightning in front. Moderate range, hits multiple times. | Roll sideways (not backward). The lightning travels in a line — sidestepping avoids all damage. |
| Antler Charge | Lowers head and charges forward with antlers. Piercing damage. | Block with Wood Shield or roll to the side. The charge has a long wind-up — easy to read. |
| Stomp | A close-range area-of-effect stomp with front hooves. | Back away when he rears up. Melee fighters should get 1-2 hits then step back. |
4. Best Weapons & Strategy
Recommended Weapons
| Weapon | Why |
|---|---|
| Crude Bow + Flint Arrows | Best approach — stay at range and fire arrows between his attacks. Kite in a wide circle. |
| Flint Spear | Fast melee attacks, pierce damage. Hit once or twice between his attacks, then dodge. |
| Wood Shield | Essential for blocking the antler charge if you can't dodge in time. |
Strategy
- Clear the area first: Remove Greydwarfs and Necks around the altar — you don't want adds during the fight.
- Eat your best food: Cooked Deer Meat + Grilled Neck Tail + Raspberries/Mushrooms gives you enough HP and stamina.
- Stay at range: Eikthyr's lightning cone is his most dangerous attack. Fight from distance with a bow if possible.
- Kite in circles: Use the open terrain around the altar to run in wide circles. Eikthyr's charge has a long recovery animation — fire 1-2 arrows while he recovers.
- Manage stamina: Don't sprint constantly. Walk between attacks, sprint only to dodge the charge or lightning.
- Use the Rested buff: Sit by a campfire before the fight for health and stamina regen.
5. Pre-Fight Preparation Checklist
- ✅ Workbench Level 2 — for Flint Spear and Crude Bow upgrades
- ✅ Crude Bow + 40-60 Flint Arrows (more if your bow skill is low)
- ✅ Flint Spear as backup melee weapon
- ✅ Wood Shield for blocking
- ✅ Leather Armor (full set: Tunic + Pants + Helmet + Cape)
- ✅ 3 best foods: Cooked Deer Meat + Grilled Neck Tail + Honey or Raspberries
- ✅ Rested buff active
- ✅ Area cleared of Greydwarfs, Necks, and Boars
