💡 How Damage Works in Valheim
🧮 The Simplified Formula
Damage per Hit ≈ Base Damage × Skill Multiplier × Upgrade Bonus × Resistance Multiplier. Skill ranges from 0.25× at level 0 to 1.0× at level 100. Each upgrade level adds ~10% base damage. Resistance ranges from 0.25× (Very Resistant) to 2.0× (Very Weak).
⚠️ What This Calculator Excludes
Parry counter-attacks deal 2× damage during the stagger window — the single biggest damage boost in the game. Backstabs (3-6× depending on weapon) and DoT stacking (poison, fire) are not included. Real fights end significantly faster with skilled parry timing.
🎯 Enemy Resistances Matter More Than Raw Damage
A 35-damage Blunt weapon vs a Blunt-weak enemy (1.5×) deals ~52 effective damage. A 95-damage Slash weapon vs a Slash-resistant enemy (0.5×) deals only ~47. Matching damage type to enemy weakness is more important than the weapon's tier.
📈 Skill Level = Hidden Power
At skill 0, you deal only 25% of your weapon's listed damage. At skill 100, you deal 100%. A player with skill 70 (Master) deals ~2× more damage than a player with skill 15 (Fresh) using the exact same weapon. Sticking with one weapon type pays off enormously.
